GREENHOUSE GAS (GHG) INVENTORIES AND MEASUREMENT

Greenhouse gases (GHG) include carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), hydrofluorocarbons (HFC), perfluorocarbons (PFC), and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), as well as other fluorinated gases (e.g., nitrogen trifluoride and hydrofluorinated ethers). Airtech can provide inventory services to help comply with the EPA's currently proposed reporting rule, which mandates GHG reporting for facilities emitting over 25,000 metric tons of GHG’s per year. Airtech can also help facilities comply with California’s mandatory GHG reduction rule, AB32 . A link to the proposed EPA reporting rule can be found here.

Airtech can also help verify GHG emissions and GHG emission factors by performing real time testing and monitoring of GHG’s such as carbon dioxide, methane and N2O. Airtech can help develop site specific emission factors for GHG for sources where little or no data is available.

Airtech can also determine what fraction of CO2 emissions result from burning biological fuel (biogenic fuels), as opposed to anthropogenic fuels like coal and natural gas. Biogenic CO2 emissions are not included as GHG emissions and are typically found in the emission of facilities that burn municipal waste or biomass. Using the sampling method ASTM D7459 and the analytical method ASTM D6866, Airtech can determine what percentage of a facilities emissions are biogenic. Airtech works with laboratories such as Beta Analytic which utilize carbon dating technology for the determination.
